Why doubleV?
In English, the letter W is called “double U,” a name that has never quite made sense. W is not two U's. Look at its shape: it is unmistakably two V's placed side by side. The French understood this all along, calling it double vay, or double V.
My last name is Weiss, which begins with W. doubleV is that initial read literally: the two V's that together form a W.
